Stephen Walker has covered political events in the UK and Ireland for over 30 years. 

Born in England he was brought up in Ballymena and studied at Northampton and Portsmouth. After being involved in student journalism he began his career with BBC Radio Leeds in 1989 where he worked as a news reporter and producer.

He joined BBC Northern Ireland in 1991 and started working as a news reporter for BBC Radio Ulster. He worked for the daily news programmes including Good Morning Ulster and Newsbreak and PM Ulster. He began television reporting in 1993 for Inside Ulster and moved to make documentaries for BBC Spotlight in May 1994.

He worked at a variety of roles with BBC Northern Ireland including London Correspondent, Political Reporter and Political Correspondent. Over the years he has interviewed leading public figures including 5 Prime Ministers, numerous Taoisaigh and other Irish and British politicians.

A well connected journalist used to dealing with opinion formers in Belfast and London. He has covered landmark political moments including the Good Friday Agreement, the Brexit Referendum, the Scottish Independence vote and countless elections.

During his BBC career he travelled extensively across Europe, Russia and the United States including Washington, and New York. He reported from Hong Kong, the Philippines, Gibraltar, Bosnia and had a ringside seat during Ireland’s appearance at 1994 World Cup Finals.
